Gutter and Roof-Edge Clean-Out in Wattle Grove

A roof is only as good as the edge that carries water off it. On this Colorbond roof in Wattle Grove, the gutter had filled with leaves, twigs and silt, so every heavy shower was spilling over the front edge instead of reaching the downpipes.

Overflowing gutters do more than make a mess of the garden. Water that can't get away backs up under the last row of roof sheets, soaks the fascia boards and sits against the steel, where it starts rust from the inside out. On a metal roof, that edge is where most corrosion problems begin.

We cleared the gutter by hand, flushed out the fine material and checked that water ran freely to each outlet. While we were up there, we also checked the sheet ends and fixings along the roof edge for any early signs of rust or lifting.

Why a roofer cares about your gutters

Blocked gutters are one of the most common reasons we get called out for "roof leaks" that turn out to be overflow. Keeping them clear protects the roof sheets, the fascia and the ceiling below. Homes with trees nearby are best checked every three to six months, especially before storm season.
