Hip Tile Repair and Repoint in Revesby

1 min read
This older terracotta roof in Revesby had a cracked hip tile down near the gutter line, with weeds growing out of the gap.

Hip caps sit on a bed of mortar and are sealed with pointing. On older roofs that mortar can dry out, crack and let go. Once it does, the cap can shift, rain gets underneath, and a strong wind can lift it off altogether.
We reset the hip tile so it sat firm and straight, then repointed it to seal it in.

Check your hips and ridges for:
Cracked or crumbling mortar along the caps
Caps that look crooked or loose
Weeds or moss growing from the joints
Ceiling stains near the outer edges of the house
